WHAT IS TRIO SSS?
TRIO Student Support Services is a federally funded program designed to provide underrepresented student populations with academic support, cultural engagement, and personal development programming. TRIO focuses on increasing student persistence and promoting degree completion and realization of career or academic goals.

To qualify for TRIO Student Support Services at Detroit Mercy applicants MUST be:
- Currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment at University of Detroit Mercy as an undergraduate student.
- Be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident as defined by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
In addition, those who satisfy the above conditions MUST ALSO meet at least ONE of the following eligibility criteria:
- First-generation college student: A student whose parents have not received a baccalaureate degree, or a student who did not regularly live with or receive support from a parent.
- Income eligible: A student whose family meets federal income eligibility guidelines (taxable household income is below the federally determined guideline, see federal income chart). This information will be verified using the student’s FAFSA Student Aid Report and signed statement of income verification.
- Student with a documented disability: A student who has a documented disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which will need to be verified by Detroit Mercy’s Student Accessibility Services.
TRIO Student Support Services' participation list is limited. Our program serves 140 scholars per year. If the program roster is full, student applicant will be placed on a waiting list and admitted when participant numbers permit. All services are provided at not cost to participants.
TRIO SSS Scholar Expectations
Once a student is selected as a participant in the program, a TRIO SS Success Coach will work with student to develop an Academic Success Plan. Scholars are expected to take an active role in TRIO SSS Program by participating in semester and annual requirements.

Eligibility Assessment

Authorization to Exchange or Request Information
Student information is confidential under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. 1232g. Therefore, your authorization is necessary to permit (a) the release of information concerning your academic progress to your parent(s), guardian(s), or designee and (b) to seek information about your academic progress from teachers, financial aid officers, disability resource officials and/or other university personnel.
The Authorization to Exchange/Request information is for the above stated purpose.

Statement of Agreement and Consent
I authorize Detroit Mercy TRIO Student Support Services to gather my standardized testing scores, financial aid reports, transcripts, accommodation needs, and other necessary information to provide the services I have requested, and to make reports to the U.S. Department of Education for the re-funding of this program. I also authorize UDM TRIO SSS to obtain periodic reports from my instructors regarding my academic progress for courses in which I am enrolled. I understand that all information will be kept confidential and will be used for the following specified purposes: Student demographic data and record keeping, program eligibility, program evaluation, student needs assessment, federal reporting, presentations, conferences, publications, and other administrative purposes.
I also authorize UDM TRIO SSS to use any data gathered, after records are made anonymous by removing my identifying information, for presentations, conferences, publications, and any other use related to research, or academic/professional development.
I grant UDM TRIO SSS permission to use photographs, quotes, academic accomplishments, statements and/or print my first and last name in any and/or all publications for UDM TRIO SSS.
